Destiny presentation on Scratch
I have finished the first presentation on how Destiny works, created with the Scratch software that I talked about previously (see first post, at the bottom of this page).
This presentation will show you how to use Destiny; I'm still finishing another presentation which will explain Destiny Quest (same information but different presentation and different ways to access things).

Need to pick up an accent for a play?
Thanks to
CNN's article on how actors learn to pick up accents, I came across these two websites:
IDEA and
Archival Sound Recordings. Listen to audio clips to help you get the correct accent for many different English dialects!
For extra information, check these websites out:
IPA chart for English dialects and
Sounds of English.

ProQuest (BigChalk)
Got research to do? Sources to find for a project or a paper? Don't know where to start, or Google is showing way too much (or way too little)?
Then give ProQuest (also known as "BigChalk") a try! You can access it through the
Student Services webpage, where you'll find the link to it as well as the login information.
ProQuest gives you free access to thousands of documents: books, articles, journals, pictures, videos, maps, etc... all written by knowledgeable people. So, contrary to what you might find on Google, you know that the information you'll find in ProQuest is verified and supported by evidence.
ProQuest also gives you the possibility to email documents to yourself, and gives you the citation in MLA format for every and any document that is of interest to you.
eLibrary Curriculum provides documents on all topics for teachers, and students of all ages;
eLibrary Elementary chooses documents appropriate for elementary students;
History Study Center focuses on Social Studies topics;
and ProQuest Learning: Literature will be a great resource for any English/Language Arts project!
Destiny
Well, you know I just have to talk about Destiny, don't you? :)
Alright, for the few people who have forgotten their orientation at the library (but I know it's only like 2 students, right? ;) ), Destiny is the online catalog for our library. That means that you can access the catalog 24/7, anywhere in the world, and see what books we have, which are available, etc...
The great thing is that now you can create your own account (ask Mrs. Prettol for your barcode number; after that, you create your own username and password!) which allows you to put books on hold, check when your books are due, if you have a fine, recommend books to your friends - and see which books they have recommended to you! - and a whole lot more.
Destiny has also become more visually attractive thanks to Destiny Quest. You can do the same things in Destiny as in Destiny Quest; only the presentation changes.
I am creating a little video that will explain how Destiny works. I'll post it as soon as it's ready! In the meantime, you can visit
Destiny and
Destiny Quest.
Scratch
I discovered
Scratch just a few days ago, while trying to find a program that would allow me to create a sort of 'film' (I am creating a presentation of Destiny that's a more interesting and interactive, and that would be available online, ready for you to watch when you don't know how to use Destiny).
Scratch is not the easiest program that I have worked with, but please let me say that I am not great with computer programming! Fortunately, they created
another website with lots of tutorials to show how to use the different capabilities of the program.
Let me know if you created something using Scratch!
9/23/2010 - update: I know that the Natomas School District office has blocked the main Scratch website. I have asked to reconsider their decision. I hope that they will! I will keep you updated.
9/27/2010
- update: teachers have access to Scratch on campus. Students, please access Scratch from a computer at home, a public library, etc...
